Chennai: With Idol Wing IG Pon Manickavel retiring today, the government has appointed IG Abhay Kumar Singh to succeed him.
The IG has been given promotion as ADGP and given his new post.
Manickavel, who had a tumultuous stint as Idol Wing IG, hangs up his boots today. He was appointed to unearth the issue of idols being stolen from various temples of Tamilnadu. The biggest fish he netted with businessman Nirav Shah from whose residence in Saidapet they recovered tens of precious idols.
The other person who was brought under the scanner was entrepreneur Kiran Rao, from whose residence even pillars were unearthed. 
But just as the investigations were progressing, the government decided to go to for a CBI probe. However, this was struck down by the court and Manickavel continued his investigations.
It remains to be see how the probe will continue under the new head.
