Chennai: An unidentified gang comprising women attempted to kidnap a school girl in Tambaram this morning. The police are conducting investigations to find if the gang targeted young school girls or if the incident took place due to previous enmity.
The incident sent shock waves in the area, even as the public intervened on time to save the girl. The girl raised an alarm as the women forced her to consume a liquid while dragging her into a vehicle.
According to the police, Shalini (16), a resident of Kannagi Street, East Tambaram was riding on her cycle at Buddhar Street, East Tambaram at 5.30 am to attend her computer class when a Tata Ace vehicle blocked her way.
Three women from the vehicle grabbed her and tried to make her drink a liquid. They also attempted to pull her into the vehicle when Shalini began shouting for help.
Hearing her cries, people nearby gathered at the spot and the women quickly left her and drove away in the vehicle. Public helped Shalini contact her father Murugan, who came and took her to the hospital.
