Chennai: Murasoli has today carried an article on a thanking letter that was sent by News Today Group Editor, Chairman and Managing Director T R Jawahar to DMK president M K Stalin.
Stalin, who is the oppostition leader in the State Assembly, had extended his greetings to News Today on it stepping into the 37th year of publishing.
Stalin had said News Today is a dictionary for news.
In his greeting message, he had said, “On behalf of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, I convey my heartfelt wishes to News Today for successfully completing 36 years. The number one English evening newspaper of the city was started by T R Ramaswami, who was a doyen of journalism and close friend of Kalaignar (DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi). I am happy that it has grown big now.”
He said News Today stands for press freedom and publishes news without any bias. “It has carved a niche for itself among readers,” he said, and added that though there is no dearth of sensational news lately, News Today focusses on delivering constructive, useful and scientific news to readers.
“It has occupied a great place in the hearts of the people of Chennai,” said Stalin.
Congratulating News Today Group Editor, T R Jawahar and other members of the team, he said the newspaper should carry forward its journey for centuries.
In response to Stalin’s greetings, T R Jawahar sent him a letter thanking him for his wishes.
“Your father (DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi) practiced healthy politics and took criticism constructively. When my father wrote on politics, a response for that will be featured in Murasoli the following morning,” Jawahar said and added that Karunanidhi took pride in saying he was a journalist himself.
“Your heartfelt wishes will encourage us further. The practice (of extending greetings to others) has become rare and is diminishing in Tamilnadu and your wishes brings us confidence,” T R Jawahar said in his letter to the DMK leader.
