Stalin meets Sharad Pawar, Kejriwal in Delhi

New Delhi / Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin today met Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi and invited them to take part in the statue unveiling ceremony of former DMK chief M Karunanidhi, to be held at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai on 16 December.

Later in the day, Stalin, who reached the capital Sunday, was set to take part in the grand meeting of Opposition parties organised at the Parliament House.

The meeting is considered to be a game changer in the national politics as it will discuss about the alliance to take on the BJP in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The meeting was set to be attended by leaders of Congress, Indian Communist, Marxist Communist, Trinamool Congress and Telugu Desam, among others. Sources said the meeting will be chaired by Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

The meet has been organised by Telugu Desam Party Chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The opposition parties meeting comes a day ahead of the poll results being announced in five States – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Telangana and the start of the Winter session of Parliament.

Sources also said that the opposition parties might also decide on who will be the Prime Minister candidate, if the alliance is forged.

Ahead of the meeting, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached New Delhi this morning.

Stalin who went to Delhi yesterday met Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and extended birthday wishes to her and invited her for statue unveiling function. During the meeting with her, Stalin also discussed about the present political situation in Tamilnadu and about the alliance for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls (Read separate story on same page).

NDA meet

Meanwhile, NDA is said to hold a meeting today evening, ahead of the Winter Session in Parliament. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
