Chennai: Governor Banwarilal Purohit today said colleges should lay stress on the inculcation of skills that will enable the students to find a useful role in the employment arena.

Addressing at the annual graduation day (post graduate courses-Men) of Jamal Mohamed College in Tiruchi, he said, “We are living in challenging times. On one side India is faced with the task of providing the comprehensive benefits of education and health care to its entire population. At the same time the nation is reaching out to match the most developed countries in their achievements. Colleges are expected to provide the basic platform for creating the human resources that can enable this accomplishment of the entire range of achievements.”

For this to happen, colleges should lay stress on the inculcation of skills that will enable the students to find a useful role in the employment arena. Communication, vocational and creative skills are to be honed along with the learning of subjects normally provided in the college curriculum such as History, Physics, Mathematics, etc, the Governor said.

Purohit said the path to progress is illuminated by the lamp of education. Prosperity knocks at your door when people in society acquire the asset of education. “All those assembled here, teachers and students have benefited by this acquisition of knowledge. Let its benefits be shared with the community so that India becomes a stronger healthier and more prosperous nation,” he said.

Tiruchi Collector K Rajamani, college secretary and correspondent A K Khaja Nazeemudeen, president M J Jamal Mohamed Bilal, treasurer M J Jamal Mohamed, assistant secretary K Abdus Samad, principal S Ismail Mohideen were among those participated.
