Residents of the neighbourhood are not happy with the existing ‘Namma Toilet’ near Selaiyur government school, as the facility has not been put to proper use and instead acts a hub for miscreants during night.
The close proximity of the Namma Toilet near the wier from the Selaiyur lake, has also worried many as it is bound to contaminate the canal.
Speaking on this, Vijayakumar, a resident, said, “We have been requesting the Municipality to move the facility to some other place. Almost every household has bathrooms, so there is little use of it here. Also, this is more of a menace, as anti-social elements make use of this place to consume alcohol.”
Apart from this, residents also want another similar Namma Toilet near the Selaiyur cemetery, to be shifted.
Kathiresan, a resident, said, “For a long time, we have been requesting authorities to shift this to the Tambaram East bus stop. If it is kept there, at least the passengers will be benefitted, as most commuters urinate in the open,”
Tambaram Municipality officials could not be reached for comment.
