Chennai: The Tamilnadu government has announced that 3,186 uniformed police personnel would be presented the Chief Minister’s Pongal medals.

An official release said in recognition of the outstanding devotion to duty displayed by personnel of the Police, Fire and Rescue Services and Prison Services departments, and with a view to motivating them, Tamilnadu Chief Minister’s Medals are announced and presented on the occasion of Pongal Day, every year.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami ordered that 3,000 police personnel in the rank of constables, grade-I and II, head constables, women head constables, special sub-inspectors of police (men and women), havildars (men and women) of Armed Police and equivalent ranks would be presented the Tamilnadu Chief Minister’s Constabulary Medals for this year.

Palaniswami also announced that 120 Fire and Rescue Services personnel in the rank of leading fireman, driver mechanic, fireman drivers and firemen and 60 Prison Service personnel in the rank of grade-I warders (men and women) and grade-II warder (men) would be presented the Tamilnadu Chief Minister’s Medals in recognition of their outstanding devotion to duty.

The monthly medal allowance of Rs 400 to the recipients of these medals will be sanctioned with effect from February 1 this year, irrespective of their rank.

The medals will be presented at the district headquarters in a ceremonial parade at a convenient date to be fixed by the Director General of Police, Director, Fire and Rescue Services, and the Additional Director General of Police / Inspector General of Prisons.

In addition to these awards, the Chief Minister announced that the awarding of the Tamilnadu Chief Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Technical and Specialised Services to six personnel, two each from the Police Radio Branch, Dog Squad and Police Photographers.

CASH AWARD

Officers in the rank of constables and head constables would receive cash award of Rs 4,000, while those in the grade of sub-inspectors and inspectors would receive Rs 6,000, and deputy superintendent of police, Rs 10,000.
