Chennai: Traffic was thrown out of gear at most places in Chennai this morning following a protest by the main opposition DMK seeking probe against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in Kodanad video leak.
DMK cadres gathered in large numbers near Saidapet to carry out a procession towards Raj Bhavan. As a result, traffic was blocked on busy GST Road. Also, the roads leading to Vadapalani, Adyar and Tambaram saw vehicles in a beeline with no space to move. The protesting cadres were arrested leading to more chaos in these parts.
Chennai district secretaries of the party led the protest urging Governor to set up a special investigative team to probe the allegations against the Chief Minister. South Chennai DMK secretary and Triplicane-Chepauk MLA J Anbazhagan, M K Thamizharasu, Vagai Chandrasekhar and former Mayor M Subramanian among others participated in the protest.
Office-goers and students were worst-hit. “No one cares about the common folk. The protest could have been held after peak hours,” said Sri Charan, a commuter caught in the middle of traffic on the way to his office in Guindy.
Coming from Anna Nagar to Guindy via 100 Feet Road took about one hour for Sridhar. Metros and EMU trains were also jam-packed today as commuters who usually take the road crammed themselves inside trains to reach their destination on time.
