Coimbatore: With lack of sufficient rains threatening a dry summer, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today said interlinking of Godavari-Cauvery will surely be completed with the help of Central government.

He was speaking at a function in Vaiyampalayam here where he inaugurated a memorial for farmer leader C Narayanasamy Naidu.

The memorial hall was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore. Palaniswami said the foundation stone for the Athikadavu-Avinasi project will be laid by the end of February.

“The places that are left out in the project will also be included.” He also said in a move to improve ground water level, check dams will be constructed across the State. Palaniswami further said the State ranks first in crop insurance.

“Compared to last year, more farmers have joined the insurance scheme this year. This government acts as a pillar of support for farmers. Seeds and fertilisers are given to farmers in a subsidised rate,” he added. He also said a food park is planned to be constructed in Chennai at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore.
