Chennai: An woman was found hanging at her residence in Choolaimedu in the wee hours of today. A police source said, she was identified as Mohana (29), an advocate. She lived with her husband Rajesh and seven-year-old son Harshavaradhan at Periyar Street.
Police said Rajesh, a businessman, was a murder accused. He often allegedly assaulted Mohana under the influence of alcohol.
Last night, he began physically assaulting her and she called the police station. Sub-Inspector Selvaraj came to their house following the distress call. However, Rajesh fled the spot. Following this, Selvaraj asked Mohana to call again when Rajesh returned.
At 1 am, the police again got a call for help from Mohana. When they arrived, the door was locked from inside. They later found her hanging from the ceiling and the son asleep.
The body was sent to Government Kilpauk Hospital for post mortem.
