Thanks to Chennai Group of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Mandalis functioning at Cart Track Road, several residents learn to chant Vishnu Sahasranama at locations like Venkatanarayana Road, Madley Road and Mahalingapuram in Chennai free of cost.
Visvas Charitable Trust, an integral part of the Mandalis group, conducts six months certificate course for the benefit of residents. Scholars from various institutions teach Sahasranama with word to word meaning for 108 slokas with correct pronunciation.
Explaining about this, Sivaramakrishnan, one of the co-ordinators, said, “During July 2017, the Trust commenced conducting classes on Vishnu Sahasranama through its unit Visvas Institute to take Sahasranama to every one.”
“The free six month certificate course on developing proficiency in Vishnu Sahasranamam with introductory meaning is offered twice a year at various locations in T Nagar and the classes are conducted by renowned faculty from various walks of life.”
“By explaining meaning for each and every word of 1008 slokas with clear pronunciation, participants will understand the significance of chanting Sahasranama.”
“In all, there will be 20 classes with duration of one and half hour, each and open to different ages. Certificates will be awarded after completion of the course,” he added.
Apart from this, mandalis are also organising various programmes like nagara sankeerthan chanting Sahasranama daily at 5.30 am around Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam temple, Venkatanarayana Road, mass chanting at various locations in city including Shirdi Sai Baba temple, Pinjala Subramanian Street, annual mass chanting at Tirumala and at educational institutions and chanting at houses under ‘Veeduthorum Vishnu Sahasranamam’ programmes.
Visva Vishnu Sahasranama Samasthan, another venture of the mandali, is organising mass chanting at hospitals, senior citizen homes, goshalas, prisons and river banks and also synchronising mass chanting with over 200 schools covering over one and half lakh students annually.
Sivaramakrishnan said, “Several educational institutions in the neighbourhood are taking part in the annual synchronised mass chanting and children enthusiastically take part and learn to chant.”
