A pit dug up at the junction of Thyagaraya Road-Thanikachalam Road for the ongoing Smart City Pedestrian Plaza project is posing a risk to commuters as there is no barricade or fencing to caution people.
As a result, vehicles often skid raising doubts about the progress of the plaza work at Pondy Bazaar. For many drivers of both private and public vehicles, turning into this junction is like a nightmare as the stretch becomes narrow with two way entry from both sides.
Explaining his bitter experience, Rajasekar, a motorist, said, “Thanks to timely alert by a staffer of nearby petrol bank, I stopped my vehicle before a fall at the huge pit.”
Like him, many drivers feel the danger at the pit which remains open without any caution. During night hours when the traffic is high, the risk is also high, they feel.
“The situation is the same for quite some time but the authorities seem to be less bothered about the safety of vehicles and people here.” “At least, they should erect a barricade around the pit and caution the vehicles moving nearby,” he pleaded.
