Rangarajapuram is perhaps one of the relatively calmer neighbourhoods around Kodambakkam. However, for the past few months, people are finding it difficult to commute with ease here. The reason being – lack of adequate bus service.
According to sources, small bus S32 has been cancelled, causing all the inconvenience.
A recent report revealed that Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), has started to reduce the frequency of small buses, while completely scrapping the service in certain areas. One of the major factors for this decision, is that these buses were not being financially viable.
Ramya, a resident from Rangarajapuram, shared her concerns on this. “For more than a year, the bus frequency has been severely disrupted,” she says.
“S32 used to pass from CMBT to Nungambakkam. This helped many residents to commute to Vadapalani and T Nagar with ease. But ever since it was cancelled, we are finding it difficult to travel to these places,” she adds.
She also noted that sometimes, share autos are not allowed to travel near bus stops. “I have seen auto drivers warn them not to come here, as it affects their income,” she says.
“Even if we get just one bus regularly, I am sure residents will be relieved,” feels Ramya, adding that they are hopeful that MTC takes their plight into consideration.
