Chennai: Six members of a family died when a car they were travelling fell into Parambikulam-Aliyar-Project (PAP) canal near Pollachi in Coimbatore during wee hours of today. The family was returning from a pilgrimage.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Prakash (45) of Masakkalipalayam, his wife Chitra (40), his daughter Pooja (8), his elder sister S Sumathi (50) and his brother Panneerselvam’s wife Latha (42) and their daughter Dharanai (9).
As per reports, the mishap took place at 2 am, when they were returning home after visiting Lord Murugan temple in Palani.
Prakash was at the wheels when they reached Kedimedu area on the Udumalpet-Pollachi Road. It is said that he lost control of the car and hit the parapet of the canal and fell into the water.
After few hours, passersby saw the vehicle floating in the canal and informed the police. The bodies were sent to Pollachi Government Hospital for post-mortem.
