Association in Chennai launches ‘Know Your Neighbourhood’ initiative

The Eighth Sector Residents Welfare Association at K K Nagar celebrated Women’s Day with much zeal, 10 March.

About 100 of them, including men, women and children, came together to celebrate the day. The event saw women from across all age groups (5 to 90 years) celebrate womanhood with all glory.

Kolam and cookery competitions, in addition to the food stalls and product stalls by women entrepreneurs from the sector, added vibrancy to the show, a press release said.

There was a health awareness talk by Dr Subadra Satheesh, healthy cooking tips By Podhigai TV-fame Radha Srinivasan, electronic veena performance by artiste Niveditha Arun, Carnatic singing by Vidya Siva Guru,

Mohiniyattam by Sunitha Rajkumar and peppy song numbers by Super Singer-fame and playback singer Anitha Karthikeyan.

The highlight was the launch of ‘Know Your Neighbourhood’ initiative, where the first edition featured two septuagenarian women – Saraswathi Radhakrishnan and Indira Jayakumar sharing their real time life stories.

“Every month, two persons, including men, children would be selected and a profile will be done about them and would be posted on the WhatasApp group comprising sector residents. Only those inspirational persons would be considered,” said Priya Ragavan, one of the organisers and resident of Eighth Sector.

The event culminated with the association honoring women house keeping staff of the sector and also the R7 Policemen, who stood guard to ensure a peaceful and successful event.
