Chennai: It was action replay for Rahul Gandhi, except that the contributor to his perils was a different person, as the Congress president began his second leg of campaigns in the State today.
After the viral debacle that occurred with former TNCC president K V Thangkabalu, due to his mis-translation and the ensuing memes about the Nagercoil speech in social media, the party today changed the translator.
This time, it was the turn of a retired professor Palanidurai of Madurai Gandhigram University. Rahul was in for a surprise again as the retired professor spewed out words that were not uttered by Rahul.
When Rahul said, “A total of Rs 3.6 lakh will be deposited in the accounts of 20 per cent of country’s poor,” the translator changed the amount to Rs 3 lakh and 60.
Similarly, when Rahul slammed the AIADMK government stating it has not given farmers Rs 6,000 crore that is due to them, Palanidurai said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not given the money to the farmers.
In another instance, when the Congress leader spoke about introducing a farmers’ budget much like the Railway budget (which was stopped by the BJP, according to Rahul), the former professor said the farmers loan was stopped by the NDA government.
The Congress party had decided to bring in a translator during the campaigning of its chief in the State for he will be speaking in English. Last time around, Thangkabalu’s mis-translation of Rahul Gandhi’s speech at Nagercoil messed up the whole show, leading to the birth of several memes.
