Chennai: The Government Municipal School in West Tambaram has secured 100 per cent results in the tenth board exam for the fourth time in a row.

About 17 students from Tamil medium and 18 from English medium wrote the exam this time and have all passed.

The school has been appreciated by the residents for its infrastructure and the facilities which are on a par with private institutions.

The high school, which had only 84 students before 2013, went on an admission spree later with the distribution of pamphlets to nearby villages.

Speaking to News Today, school headmaster C Mayakrishnan said, “Awareness was also created by the teachers and the students of the school. In the last five years, the admission doubled and at present there are 210 students.”

He further said in the last academic year alone 100 admissions were made. “The school did not just see increase in students but also the strength of the staff increased from 8 in 2013 to 12 now. The infrastructure in the school including pure drinking water and toilets were improved with government assistance. The school also received district cleanliness award in 2017 and 2018,” the headmaster said.

Speaking about the secret behind their success, Mayakrishnan, a recipient of Dr Radhakrishnan award for best teacher last year, said special classes were conducted for class 10 students three months before the board exams. Morning breakfast was provided to the students with the help of teachers and sponsors.

The primary school, which also functions in the same compound, had 50 students in 2015 and now, 129 students. Parents appreciate the efforts taken by primary school headmistress M Maimunisha for her contribution in increasing the intake.

Mayakrishnan said this year he will take care of the admission fee of Rs 75 for new students. The school is also set to get a new computer lab.
