Patient’s relatives assault doctor at NIMS in Hyderabad


Hyderabad: A senior medical officer in the state-run Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences was yesterday allegedly assaulted by relatives of a 28-year-old man who was admitted there after being injured in a road accident.

The patient who was injured in a road accident after his motorcycle skidded was brought to the hospital at 4.22 am. He was given necessary treatment and at 5 am was shifted to the CT scan room  and then to the ultrasound room. When the attendants found the room apparently locked.

The relatives accused Dr Anvesh of negligence in treating the patient and hurled abuses and manhandled him. A video of the incident has gone viral.

A police complaint was registered by the duty resident doctor. Following this, a group of doctors staged a protest on the hospital premises seeking action against those responsible for the incident.

A case under IPC section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) was registered at Punjagutta police station.
