Chennai: Works to resurrect the Putheri lake in Pallavaram near the 200 Feet Road, have commenced, after a private college donated Rs 30 lakh for the same.
The institution, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), donated the amount in the form of a cheque to Kanchipuram District Collector, who immediately ordered Pallavaram Municipality to begin the works.
Meanwhile, residents of Suriya Avenue, Senthil Nagar, Ishvarya Nagar and Kurinji Nagar have
requested to build a small park, and footpath near the brim of the lake.
Suguna Rajendran, a resident of the locality, says, “Water scarcity has always been a problem for us. Now that they have started to clean, deepen and resurrect the lake, we all hope that there will no more such issues, that is, if the monsoon arrives as expected.”
Similarly, Rajendran who resides at Kurinji Nagar states, “We are way too excited for rains this season, because unlike last time, Putheri lake will be able to hold a lot of water this year. This hopefully will ease the scarcity problem to an extent. Also, if the park and recreation facilities are built as per our requests, it will benefit elderly people and children.”
With this initiative making news, locals of other neighbouring areas are hopeful that water-bodies in their respective regions too are rejuvenated in a similar manner.
