Chennai: The stretch at Bazaar Nagar Main Road, that leads to Ram Nagar bus stop, was dug up a day after new tarmac was laid to rectify damages caused to cables underground while laying the road.
The road is a busy one connecting Madipakkam, Puzhuthivakkam and Keelkattalai to Velachery-Tambaram Main Road and is accessed by thousands of vehicles, including heavy vehicles like trucks and buses on a daily basis.
Mathangi Krishnan, a resident of Puzhuthivakkam said, “We were all happy because the Bazaar Nagar Main Road, which is ever busy, was re-laid. The main purpose of doing this was to reduce traffic congestion during busy hours of the day and to reduce the number of minor accidents that take place in the stretch almost on every passing day.”
“All the roads are laid with the tax money that we citizens pay. The government is wasting our money. They should have had a proper plan before laying the roads. They cannot be irresponsible like this,” she added.
“We thought that if the road was re-laid, it would benefit all the residents of the area and the commuters who access these roads. Unfortunately, now this has added to more danger to the commuters, said Pramod, a resident of Ram Nagar.
He added that commuters always meet with accidents at the stretch. “It is not just bikers who drive above the speed limits in this stretch who end up meeting with accidents. Even those who stick to the rules are made victims to the lunacy that happens on our roads. The issue should soon be rectified,” he said.
