Chennai: As Chennai and its neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur go into yet another lockdown from tomorrow, the police have come up with a set of rules and instructions for the public to follow.
From 19 to 30 June, people are not allowed to use their vehicles unless it is absolutely necessary or in case of emergency. Police will seize any two or four wheeler used against rules and the owner many face charges.
Those who need essentials are allowed to walk to shops which is in two-kilometer radius of their house and are not allowed to use vehicle to get their essentials. Strict action will be taken against anyone who violate the rule, police said.
From 20-26 June, bank employees can show their identity card and commute to work and home. On 21 and 28 June, which are Sundays, the State will be under a total lockdown.
Exceptions are made for hospitals, pharmacy, milk booths and ambulance services. Those who have obtained travel E-pass for the lockdown dates may travel with a photocopy of the pass and produce it at check posts. In case the pass is found to be a fake one, the police will take strict action against them.
Even as a new lockdown is to be imposed in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts from tomorrow, the Tamilnadu police continued with arresting those who step out for non-essential purporses during curfew time.
Till this morning, they have arrested as many as 6,57,399 persons for violating norms of curfew.
Police officials said that rules will be enforced in a more strict manner from tomorrow and severe action will be taken against violators.
The restrictions have been imposed across the State to curb the spread of Coronavirus since 24 March.
A press release from the DGP’s office said that 6,08,791 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts. As many as 4,78,714 vehicles were seized.
However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 13,38,01,229 has been collected from violators as fines since the first lockdown.
With a ‘total lockdown’ proposed for Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet and Kancheepuram districts from tomorrow, the government has decided to relax a few norms.
As per a government order, the following are the relaxations that would be in force during the lockdown from 19 to 30 June.
Pre-paid autos, taxis and private vehicles allowed to ferry passengers from railway stations and airports. Police personnel will regulate these vehicles in railway stations and airports and e-pass will be issued by Tamilnadu e-governance agency.
Headquarters of banks and financial institutions are permitted to function with minimal staff. Bank branches with minimal staff may function from 20 to 26 June from 10 am to 2 pm for cash transactions relating to distributors and retail dealers of essential items like petroleum products and LPG. No direct service to public is permitted.
Workers staying within the premises of industries need not be tested for RTPCR. E-passes will be issued by the Industries department to managerial and supervisory categories of industries for movement in and out of Greater Chennai Police Commissionerate areas and other areas enforcing lockdown to their industrial units. Seaports will be permitted to handle cargo for essential commodities, medical equipment and other medical services with minimum staff.
Telecom, essential IT-ITES services to function with minimal staff and e-pass will be provided to workers in the list provided by the companies. Milk and drinking water vehicles permitted. Permission to staff working in petrol bunks provided they carry identity cards, delivery of LPG cylinders allowed.
