Chennai: Rakshabandhan is celebrated in a grand manner across the country. It is a festival that connects brothers and sisters and brings the family together. All siblings await this day to meet, tie the rakhi and exchange gifts.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the sale of rakhis has taken a massive hit all across the country. Therefore, people have come up with innovative ways to get their business going with the available resources.
And in the market, there were new varieties of rakhis on sale. Diacolor has introduced an unique product for the occasion, ‘Band of love – By Diacolor’ that one can order from Instagram or by contacting the store. Available in three different sizes and multiple colours, these bands are made of silicon with a single diamond in the centre.
Once ordered, then these are sanitised, packed and, shipped to the given address and a no contact delivery is maintained. With no extra shipping charge, this band is priced at Rs 4,999.
A shop in Hyderabad came up with a rather bizarre yet eco-friendly rakhi made out of cow dung to celebrate Raksha Bandhan this year. It called it ‘Corona Rakhi.’
And corona fears meant celebrations have taken backseat and safety has become utmost priority. Says Deepa, a resident of Sowcarpet, “My brother and my cousins live in different parts of the city. Travelling to their places in impossible today. So I have sent them the rakhis through post and courier. Will meet them online. We are missing out the real essence of the day”.
“Until last year, we will celebrate the day with utmost joy. All cousins will come together. We exchange gifts and have fun”, says Payal, a resident of Kellys. This year considering Covid-19, we called each other on video call and wished everyone, she adds.
We hope by next year all things will be normal and we celebrate the day together as a family with bothers, sister, cousins under one roof, many say.
