Chennai: The coronavirus wave in the city is seems to be going downward with just nine per cent active cases. This morning, the active cases were at 12,003.
Chennai has recorded 1,39,720 coronavirus cases, of which, 1,24,891 have recovered. As per the graph, the recovery rate is at 89 per cent.
As part of rapid testing, on 4 September, as many as 11,325 persons were tested for coronavirus. As many as 2,826 persons have succumbed to the viral infection.
The Greater Chennai Corporation gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have high numbers of Covid-19.
According to the data, Anna Nagar, a containment zone has 1,368 persons contracting the virus, Kodambakkam has close to 1,366 cases and there are 1,005 persons with the infection in Adyar. Only these three areas have more than 1,000 cases.
Other places with comparatively high numbers are, Ambattur with 948 testing positive, Valsaravakkam has 893 active cases, Teynampet has 851 cases and Royapuram has 944 testing positive.
In Kodambakkam, as many as 14,208 persons have recovered and the most number of lives were claimed in Teynampet with 390 persons succumbing to the virus.
The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 61.23 per cent of the patients are male and 38.77 per cent are female.
Around 18.90 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 30-39 years.
