If it was a women struggling against all odds to get her husband freed from kidnappers in J&K in Roja, Ka Pae Ranasingam is about a woman in a village fighting to bring the body of her husband, who died abroad back to India. But there ends the comparison.
Ka Pae is more earthy and speaks about several societal issues especially in rural Tamilnadu. Directed by Virumandi and bankrolled by Kotapadi Rajesh, it revolves around Aishwarya Rajesh with Vijay Sethupathi making an extended cameo.
Little less than three hours, Ka Pae stands on Virumandi’s writing. The fiery dialogues are few places deserves special mention.
As Ariyanachi, Aishwarya comes up Trump’s. Joy, agony, ecstasy, disappointment and anger comes quite naturally in her show. Especially towards the second half, she quite easily carries the movie on her shoulders to come up trumps.
Vijaya Sethupathi as Ranasingam is apt. Though he appears brief, Virumandi often recall his scenes to make believe that Vijay Sethupathi is there all through. But gets overboard at times. Ghibran’s music and Ekambaram’s camera deserve praise.
In a nutshell, the movie is about Ranasingam, a social activist, who goes to Dubai for work. When he has an unnatural death there all hell breaks loose. Ariyanachi’s legal battle to bring his body begins and it meets lots of hurdles.
The story strikes a chord with common man but the length is a cause of concern. A good attempt indeed by Virumandi.
