Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has confirmed that he had met the UAE Consular General and that Swapna Suresh, the then Secretary to the General was present in most of the meetings.
However, the Chief Minister did not confirm Swapna’s statements to the Enforcement Directorate that he had informally deputed M Shivshankar as the first point of contact for all matters related to the UAE consulate.
‘Some people are asking if there is any need for the UAE consul general to visit the Chief Minister. There is nothing wrong with it. He visits to invite me for events. That is part of etiquette,’ he said.
Vijayan added that Swapna Suresh accompanied the UAE consul general whenever the diplomat visited him.
‘The UAE Consul General’s secretary always accompanied him,’ he added.
