Cement prices will be further reduced: TN Minister

Chennai: The Tamilnadu government is taking all efforts to reduce the prices of cement and construction materials, which had gone up in the wake of Covid pandemic in the State, Industries Minister Thangam Thennarasu told the State Assembly.

Responding to Pollachi V Jayaraman of AIADMK, who spoke about the rising costs of construction materials and cement, he said due to the efforts taken by the government, the prices of cement have come down by Rs 30 per bag.

He said the prices of cement which stood at Rs 420 in March has risen up to Rs 490.

“The government had held talks with cement manufacturers on 14 June following which the prices have been reduced to Rs 460 per bag,” he added.

Stating that the cement manufacturers have also promised to further reduce the cement prices, Thennarasu said the government would hold talks with them again and take steps to bring down the costs of construction materials and cement.
