Chennai: Tamilnadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan met his counterpart at the Centre in New Delhi and briefed the latter about the shortage of vaccine doses in the State.

He also met V K Paul, member (Health), NITI Aayog, and Chairman of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19. They discussed the Covid-19 status in Tamilnadu.

After his meeting with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Radhakrishnan said TN has the infrastructure to inoculate around 4.73 lakh people in a day. But as a result of the shortage of doses, more people are not being administered the vaccine in the State.

“They (Union government) said they have a few challenges in vaccine production. But they have promised to supply 15.87 lakh doses of vaccines within 12 July,” Radhakrishnan said.

Other issues Radhakrishnan discussed with Union Health Secretary include inspection of the 11 new government medical colleges, preparedness for the third wave, support from the Emergency COVID-19 Response Package, expedition of construction of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Madurai, and vaccine production at HLL Biotech Limited, Chengalpattu.
