Chennai: In a shocking incident, a father has ‘euthanised’ his teenage son, who was suffering from a cancerous tumour, at Katchupalli in Konganapuram village in Salem district of Tamilnadu.
The incident took place on Sunday night and it came to light after neighbours raised suspicion over the sudden death of the 13-year-old boy.
Police sources said a case of suspicious death was registered and a probe is on to ascertain the reason for the sudden death of the boy, Vannatamil, who is the younger son of Periasamy (47), a lorry driver.
Unable to bear the sight of his son writhing in pain after his health started deteriorating due the tumour in his legs for the last one year, Periasamy allegedly took the help of a medical practitioner, who administered a lethal injection. The boy died soon after the shot was administered to him.
The police sent the body to Salem government hospital for post-mortem. When questioned, Periasamy claimed that only a pain killer injection was given.
Periyasamy and the medical practitioner were detained by the police for further investigations.
