Chennai: Even as daily Covid-19 cases dipped below the 600-mark in Tamilnadu, the number of persons under treatment for the disease fell below 10,000 after 52 days. While two districts — Tenkasi and Tirupattur — had nil new case, 21 districts had fewer than 10 cases each.
The daily Covid cases in Tamilnadu has declined to 575, which was lower than the second wave’s low of 597 cases reported on December 24, 2021. There were four deaths registered and 65,988 samples tested.
Recoveries reached 34,00,144 as 1,913 people were discharged in the last 24 hours, leaving 9,440 active infections, a medical bulletin said.
Chennai accounted for the majority of new coronavirus infections with 144 cases reported in the last 24 hours followed by Coimbatore 81, Chengalpet 66 while the remaining was spread across other districts. The State capital also leads in the total cases among districts with 7,49,474 infections.
Of the 9,440 active cases, Chennai accounted for 2,015 active cases, while there were 1,346 active cases in Coimbatore. On Thursday, 1,64,363 persons were vaccinated, said Health department data.
