Will TN be Covid free soon?


Chennai: After almost two years, Tamilnadu recorded zero Covid-19 deaths on Friday. Following this, there is a widespread joy on social media with many posts hoping for Covid free TN soon.

The last time the State reported zero fatalities was on 31 April, 2020. Sixteen of the 38 districts in Tamilnadu had no new cases and eight others reported one fresh case each. Friday’s state tally stood at 112.
At the end of the day, after discharging 327 patients, there were 1,461 patients in the active registry.

With 327 Covid-19 patients getting discharged after treatment on Friday, the cumulative recoveries have increased to 34,12,226, a bulletin from the State Health department said.

The total active cases, including isolation, further declined to 1,461.  Among districts, Chennai logged 42 cases followed by Coimbatore (13) and Chengalpet (12) while the remaining districts reported new infections in single digits. The State capital’s overall tally stood at 7,50,654.

In the Union Territory of Puducherry, zero cases were reported for the second time after 7 March since the Covid-19 outbreak in March 2020.
