Chennai: Tamilnadu Minister for Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Anitha Radhakrishnan has informed the State Assembly that 41 of the 72 fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy since January this year have been released so far.
Responding to concerns raised by Ariyalur MLA K Chinnappa, the Minister, recalling the steps taken by the DMK government, said the remaining arrested fishermen are expected to be released soon.
‘We are hoping to secure the release of remaining fishermen at the earliest,’ he said.
He also recalled the letters written by the ruling DMK to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar seeking their interventions on the issue.
