Chennai: The last date to link one’s PAN with Aadhaar is today (31 March, 2022). If both these documents are not linked by today, then there will be numerous consequences faced by an individual.
As per a notification issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Rs 500 will be charged if the PAN-Aadhaar is linked within three months after the 31 March deadline expires. And if the linking of PAN-Aadhaar is done after three months, then a penalty of Rs 1,000 will be charged.
Non-linking of PAN with Aadhaar will lead to the former becoming inoperative after 31 March, and it will be re-operationalised only after paying penalties, it said. According to official data from the Income Tax department, around 50 crore PAN have been linked with Aadhar to date.
Not seeding your PAN with Aadhaar will have repercussions on mutual fund transactions too. Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had earlier said that investments of only those investors whose PAN is mapped to Aadhaar will be operational.
