N Korea reports 6 deaths after admitting Covid-19 outbreak

Seoul: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the State Emergency Epidemic Prevention Headquarters, as North Korea reports its first outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), in Pyongyang, North Korea. Six deaths have been reported so far.

The state media has declared it a severe national emergency incident after more than two years of purportedly keeping the pandemic at bay.

The official KCNA news agency said samples taken from patients sick with fever in Pyongyang on Sunday were consistent with the virus’ highly transmissible Omicron variant.
