Three children were killed after a train ran over them while they were trying to cross the railway tracks at the Urapakkam railway station on Tuesday. Two of the three children had hearing and speech disabilities.
They have been identified as 15-year-old Suresh with a hearing disability, 10-year-old Ravi with speech disability, and 11-year-old Manjunath who was in Urapakkam to spend the long weekend with his extended family.
Officials said the children were playing near the tracks and tried to cross the tracks when the train hit them. It was a sub-urban train plying between Beach Station and Chengalpattu. All three were killed on the spot, they added.
