CM advocates for exemption from NEET

In a virtual address at a State-level function of the Doctors Association for Social Equality, Chief Minister M K Stalin reaffirmed his commitment to achieving exemption from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). He emphasized that this goal would be accomplished with the unwavering support of the people, regardless of the stance taken by those in authority. Stalin criticised the Union government’s decision to centralize admissions to medical seats through a single-window system, which traditionally falls under the purview of the State government. He framed the conference as a collective protest against the actions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, asserting that it was an infringement on the rights of the state and its medical infrastructure. “Our goal of exemption from NEET would be accomplished with the support of the people, irrespective of those in authority claiming that the NEET cannot be cancelled,” Stalin declared. He highlighted the State government’s commitment to taking steps to secure exemption from NEET, thereby asserting the state’s rights in medical education and advocating for the transfer of education to the State List. Stalin also drew attention to the proposed National Exit Test (NExT), which aims to be introduced despite Tamil Nadu’s opposition to NEET. He expressed strong opposition to NExT, vowing to counter it with vigor. According to Stalin, there are challenges facing Tamil Nadu that threaten the state’s renowned medical infrastructure and the aspirations of medical students who dream of serving society. @@@@@
