Low-pressure area to develop today

In a recent meteorological update, concerns arise as a low-pressure area is anticipated to develop over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal today. The resultant system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to coastal districts of Tamil Nadu in the coming days. The current meteorological scenario involves a cyclonic circulation over the south Andaman Sea. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to take shape over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on November 27. Meteorologists predict a west-northwestward movement, concentrating into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 29. Director P Senthamarai Kannan of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) highlighted the potential impact on coastal districts, including Chennai, stating that moderate showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, are expected due to the system over the sea. Additionally, an intense rainfall warning has been issued for Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram districts for the next two days. As a precautionary measure, fishermen operating in the deep sea are advised to return to the coast by November 28. The forecast predicts strong winds over the Bay of Bengal, influenced by the impending low-pressure area, posing potential risks for those at sea.
