Chennai Railway Division to enhance passenger experience with Walk-Over Bridges Project

The Chennai Railway Division is gearing up to elevate passenger experience by introducing walk-over bridges in 13 railway stations across various sections. With a keen focus on improving basic amenities for rail travelers, the Division has embarked on a project aimed at enhancing accessibility and convenience.

Currently, the initiative to install walk-over bridges in 10 stations is well underway, showcasing the Railway Administration’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and catering to the evolving needs of passengers. These bridges not only streamline the movement of commuters but also bolster safety measures within the stations.

The decision to prioritize the installation of walk-over bridges stems from their significant utility in facilitating seamless platform-to-platform transitions for passengers. By eliminating the need to navigate through bustling platforms, these bridges offer a hassle-free way for travelers to reach their destinations efficiently.

As part of the broader effort to upgrade facilities, the Railway Administration is also considering the implementation of additional amenities such as electric cranes and escalators. These enhancements are poised to further enhance the overall passenger experience, ensuring a more comfortable and efficient journey for all.

The planned deployment of walk-over bridges spans key sections including Chennai Central-Arakkonam, Chennai Central-Gudur, Chennai Egmore-Villupuram, Arakkonam-Jolarpettai, Arakkonam-Renigunta, and Arakkonam-Chengapattu. This ambitious undertaking is set to cover a total of 24 railway stations, with an estimated investment of Rs. 55 Crores.
