K Palaniswami, the Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu, has strongly criticised the DMK government following the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs in Chennai and Madurai. Palaniswami urged both the state police and the Narcotics Control Bureau of India to take decisive action to eradicate the menace of drugs and dismantle international drug cartels operating in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, Palaniswami called for swift and stringent measures to be taken by both the central agency and the Tamil Nadu police. He emphasized the need for coordinated raids across all districts to seize narcotics and curb their spread within the state.

“Take stringent action against these unapologetic criminals, without any discrimination. Take appropriate legal action, and strive hard to make TN a drug-free state,” Palaniswami stated in a social media post, urging authorities to act decisively against drug traffickers.

Palaniswami also directed his criticism towards Chief Minister M K Stalin, holding him accountable for the state’s vulnerability to drug trafficking and its alleged links to international drug cartels. He called upon Stalin to “wake up” and implement concentrated and sustained measures to stem the flow of drugs in Tamil Nadu.

The call for action comes in the wake of recent drug seizures in Chennai and Madurai, highlighting the urgency of addressing the drug menace and safeguarding the well-being of Tamil Nadu’s residents. Palaniswami’s statement underscores the need for proactive measures to combat drug trafficking and protect communities from the devastating impact of drug abuse.

BJP state chief K Annamalai too lashed out at the ruling dispensation and said Tamil Nadu has truly become the drug capital of India, and that Chief Minister “Thiru @mkstalin should hang his head in shame for transforming this state into a haven for drug traffickers.”

“International druglord & a DMK functionary Jaffar Sadiq is on the run; NCB is raiding DMK functionaries’ establishments, Rs 1,200 crore worth enoute to TN caught off the coast of Gujarat, and today 30 Kgs of methamphetamine was caught in transit in Madurai by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence,” he said in a post on ‘X’.
