BJP alleges DMK link to drug trafficking network

The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, K Annamalai, has raised eyebrows with allegations connecting the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to the mastermind of a drug trafficking network, AR Jaffer Sadiq. Addressing reporters, Annamalai urged transparency in revealing the purported connections between Sadiq and key DMK leaders, asserting that such affiliations should not be concealed from the public eye.
“There are reports suggesting that the individual arrested in the drug trafficking case has ties to the film industry and is involved in peddling narcotics. However, there has been no mention of his affiliation with the ruling DMK’s NRI wing, to which he reportedly belongs,” stated Annamalai, emphasizing the need for clarity and accountability in the ongoing investigations.
Annamalai underscored the gravity of the situation, highlighting the necessity of eradicating drug trafficking entirely from the state. He proposed the complete closure of all government-operated Tasmac outlets as a crucial step towards achieving this objective, signaling the BJP’s unwavering stance against substance abuse and illicit activities.
In addition to the allegations concerning the drug trafficking network, Annamalai also criticized actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan’s decision to align with the DMK-led INDIA bloc alliance in the state. Describing Haasan’s move as a “travesty of democracy,” the BJP leader expressed dismay over what he perceived as a contradiction in the actor’s political trajectory.
“The challenges of operating an alternative political party (MNM) amidst the dominance of two Dravidian majors in Tamil Nadu are evident from Kamal Haasan’s decision. Despite campaigning against the DMK in previous elections, he has now aligned himself with the same party, even securing a Rajya Sabha MP position with DMK support,” lamented Annamalai, highlighting what he views as a concerning trend in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
Furthermore, Annamalai reiterated the BJP’s commitment to inclusivity and ideological diversity, positioning the party as a unifying force capable of bridging the ideological spectrum. Extending an invitation to women, youth, and new voters seeking change, Annamalai emphasized the BJP’s role as a platform for transformative leadership and governance.
