CMRL gears up for phase II viaduct construction at Kathipara Junction

The bustling Kathipara Junction in Chennai is on the brink of a significant transformation as the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) gears up to commence construction on the Phase II viaduct. This phase of the ambitious metro project aims to seamlessly integrate the new network with the existing Phase I system, presenting a host of challenges to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
With necessary clearances secured from regulatory authorities such as the Commissioner of Railway Safety and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), CMRL is poised to embark on construction activities. One of the critical aspects guiding construction efforts is the adherence to strict height restrictions, particularly due to the proximity of the Phase II viaduct to existing structures and the flight path of the airport. These measures are crucial to prevent any interference and ensure the safety of both commuters and aircraft.
Approval has also been obtained for construction adjacent to the Phase I viaduct, with work strategically scheduled during off-peak hours to minimize disruptions to passenger services. Once completed, this phase of the project promises to enhance connectivity between various parts of the city, facilitating smoother and more efficient travel for residents and commuters alike.
In tandem with the development at Kathipara Junction, progress is being made on other corridors of the Phase II network. Notably, corridor 4 (Light House to Poonamallee) and corridor 3 (Madhavaram to SIPCOT via Thirumayilai) are also witnessing significant advancements.
