Savukku Shankar not assaulted in prison, says TN Prisons dept

The Tamil Nadu Prisons Department has swiftly responded to claims made by the lawyer of Youtuber Savukku Shankar, dismissing allegations of assault against the inmate while in custody at Coimbatore Central prison.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the prisons department refuted assertions made by Shankar’s lawyer, S Gopalakrishnan, regarding the safety of his client within the confines of the prison. The department categorically denied any instances of assault against Shankar, stating, “no prisoner has been assaulted in Central Prison, Coimbatore either by prison personnel or by other prison inmates.”
The statement emphasized the department’s commitment to upholding the rights of inmates and ensuring adherence to prison regulations. “The Department of Prisons and Correctional Services is fully committed to safeguarding the prison inmates and in maintaining their human rights and in enforcing the prison rules,” the official statement declared.
This response comes in the wake of allegations made by Shankar’s lawyer, who claimed that the Youtuber had been subjected to assault by approximately ten policemen, resulting in a fractured right arm. Gopalakrishnan went further to express concerns about Shankar’s safety, asserting that his life was in danger while incarcerated.
