Corporation to develop parks at Buckingham Canal, Porur Lake

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced plans to develop two new parks at a cumulative cost of Rs 10 crore, aiming to enhance green spaces and recreational facilities for residents. These parks will be located along the central Buckingham Canal and at Porur Lake in South Chennai.
The park at Buckingham Canal will feature walkways, lush greenery, seating areas, and a dedicated play area for children. This development is expected to transform the canal area into a vibrant community space, encouraging outdoor activities and providing a peaceful environment for relaxation.
In addition to the Buckingham Canal project, the GCC has identified several other areas for park development. These areas include Lock Nagar, Wallajah Main Road, Palaniappan Koil Street, Singaravelar Bridge, and Mundakanni Amman Bridge. These new parks will further contribute to Chennai’s urban greenery and provide residents with more options for leisure and recreation.
The upcoming park at Porur Lake will be notable for its inclusion of many native trees, reflecting an emphasis on ecological preservation and sustainability. This park will not only offer scenic beauty but also support local biodiversity, providing a habitat for various flora and fauna.
The development of these parks is part of the GCC’s broader initiative to improve the quality of life for Chennai’s residents by increasing green spaces and promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle.
