The Madras High Court has directed SR Sekar, the treasurer of the Tamil Nadu BJP, to appear before the CB-CID for investigation concerning the seizure of Rs. 3.99 crores from three train passengers during the last Parliament election.The directive came from Justice G Jayachandran in response to a petition filed by Sekar. In his petition, Sekar sought a directive to prevent the CB-CID from allegedly harassing him under the guise of investigation. Sekar claimed that despite his previous appearances before the investigation agency regarding the money seizure case, he continued to receive repeated summons.
The CB-CID countered by stating that further investigation of Sekar was necessary, particularly concerning a telephone conversation. Following these submissions, Justice Jayachandran ordered Sekar to appear before the CB-CID on July 11 for further investigation.
The case dates back to April 6 when railway police at Tambaram detained three train passengers—Sathish, Perumal, and Naveen—traveling on the Nellai Express. They were found carrying Rs. 3.99 crores without proper documentation. The Tambaram police initially registered a case against the three individuals, but the case was later transferred to the CB-CID in Chennai.
The investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly stated that the money was intended to be distributed to voters in the Tirunelveli constituency on behalf of Nainar Nagendran. As part of the ongoing probe, the CB-CID has also issued summons to Nainar Nagendran and Kesava Vinayagam, the organizing secretary of the State BJP, alongside SR Sekar.
