Another stray dog attack in Chennai: 10-year-old boy severely bitten

In a distressing incident, a 10-year-old boy was attacked by a stray dog in Washermenpet, Chennai. The boy, identified as Gaurinath, a Class III student from Seniamman Koil Street in Tondiarpet, was playing with friends when the dog chased and bit him on his left shoulder. Neighbors rushed to his aid after his friends raised an alarm, chasing the dog away and rescuing the bleeding child.

Gaurinath was immediately taken to the Government Stanley Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. An investigation officer reported that his condition was stable. Gaurinath’s mother, Thanalakshmi, works as a cook.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns among the residents of Tondiarpet, a densely populated area, about the menace of stray dogs. Many have called on the corporation authorities to take action and capture stray dogs to prevent such attacks. S. Praveena, a local resident, highlighted similar issues on Nainiappan Street in Korukkupet, where numerous stray dogs cause fear among pedestrians. Residents attribute the presence of stray dogs to a nearby meat shop, which they believe attracts the animals.

The problem of stray dogs in Chennai has been a growing concern, with several incidents of dog attacks on children reported in recent months. Residents are increasingly worried about the safety of their children and are urging authorities to implement stricter measures to control the stray dog population and ensure public safety.

As the city grapples with this issue, it is imperative for the authorities to act promptly and effectively to address the menace of stray dogs and safeguard the well-being of the residents.
