Congress MP Karti Chidambaram recently made significant remarks on the presence of rowdies in political parties and various other issues during a public address in Sivaganga.He stated, “In recent times rowdies are joining political parties for protection.” Karti emphasized the need for all political parties to thoroughly investigate the background of new members and appointees. He raised concerns about police encounters, suggesting that such actions might be intended to obscure the truth in many murder cases.
Karti also discussed the role of the police in preventing contract killings and held them accountable for such crimes. “The police must answer for the murders committed by contract killers,” he asserted.
Commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision regarding election funds, he said, “It would have been a good decision if the Supreme Court had ordered the return of the money received through election bonds. However, merely stating not to accept funds in the future is unacceptable.”
Regarding the Cauvery water issue, Karti noted, “The Cauvery Water Management Authority should take the lead in determining how Tamil Nadu should receive water from the Cauvery. Given the current good rainfall, the Karnataka government will naturally release water to Tamil Nadu.”
He also voiced opposition to the recent hike in electricity tariffs and called for the restructuring of the electricity board. “The electricity board is burdened with debt, and it cannot be restructured until this debt burden is reduced,” Karti explained.
Karti praised the state Congress leader’s initiative to meet party workers, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing and addressing public issues.
