Asserting that the growth of Tamil Nadu must transcend mere economic metrics to encompass social progress, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday called upon the State Planning Commission to develop strategies that enhance the state’s financial resources and accelerate the implementation of government schemes.Addressing a meeting of the State Planning Commission at the State Secretariat, Chief Minister Stalin emphasized the need for a holistic approach to development, one that integrates industrial growth, social transformation, and educational progress. He underscored the importance of aligning economic advancements with broader societal improvements to achieve comprehensive state growth.
“Growth does not mean mere economic growth. It must be social growth. Economy, education, society, thoughts, and action must grow simultaneously. That is the growth envisioned by Periyar, Anna, and Kalaignar. That is the Dravidian model of growth,” Stalin stated, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to an inclusive and equitable development framework.
The Chief Minister tasked the commission with producing a report similar to the recent NITI Aayog report, focusing on identifying and tapping into additional financial resources. He highlighted the potential for launching more government schemes if the state could bolster its financial standing.
“Make suggestions to augment the financial resources. Plan to ensure the immediate delivery of the schemes announced by the government. People must receive all benefits without delay. Recommend administrative changes in tune with that,” Stalin directed, stressing the need for efficient governance and prompt service delivery.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister entrusted the commission with organizing a grand conference to promote and showcase the agenda and achievements of the Dravidian model government. He specifically instructed his deputy in the commission, Professor E. Jayaranjan, to engage scholars and journalists for the conference and to publish their research findings.
During the meeting, CM Stalin also received updates from commission members on the status of various recommendations made during previous sessions. The discussion emphasized the importance of continuous evaluation and adaptation to ensure the effectiveness of the government’s developmental policies.
State Human Resources Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena, Chief Minister’s Secretary N. Muruganandam, and Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department Ramesh Chand Meena were also present at the meeting, contributing to the discussion on the state’s developmental agenda.
