In his first Council of Ministers meeting for the third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a significant addition to his longstanding governance mantra. Previously encapsulated as “Reform, Perform, and Transform,” the mantra has now been expanded to include “Inform,” emphasizing the critical role of communication in governance. This expansion marks a new phase in the Prime Minister’s approach to governance. While the principles of reform, performance, and transformation have been central to his previous two terms, the inclusion of “Inform” reflects a strategic shift towards enhancing transparency and public engagement. Addressing the Union ministers and top officials at the meeting held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, the Prime Minister underscored the necessity of not only inter-ministerial communication but also the importance of keeping the public informed about the government’s initiatives and achievements.
Modi highlighted the importance of informing the public about the successes and ongoing efforts of the government, using the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana as a key example. This financial inclusion initiative, which celebrated its 10th anniversary on August 28, was cited as a testament to the government’s long-term vision and commitment to uplifting the socio-economic status of millions of citizens. The Prime Minister urged the ministers and officials to similarly celebrate other landmark achievements from the past two terms of the NDA government.
The meeting, which began at 6 pm and concluded at 10:30 pm, featured a comprehensive agenda that touched upon several crucial issues. In his 40-minute address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the need for capacity building among officials and laid out the government’s 100-day agenda. Key programs like the Aspirational District Programme and the new Aspiration Block Programme were highlighted as critical drivers of regional development. Additionally, the Prime Minister introduced the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, a new initiative aimed at environmental conservation through tree planting in honor of mothers.
The expansion of the governance mantra to include “Inform” reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that the government’s work is not only effective but also transparent and accessible to the public. As the Modi government embarks on its third term, this renewed focus on communication is likely to play a pivotal role in shaping its policies and public perception.
