CMRL achieves record-breaking passenger numbers in Aug

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has set a new milestone, achieving its highest monthly ridership to date in August 2024. A total of 9,543,625 passengers used the metro services, marking the highest monthly figure since the metro’s inception. This is an increase of 8,606 passengers compared to July 2024, which previously held the record with 9,535,019 passengers.
The single-day passenger count also reached an all-time high on August 14, 2024, with 369,547 people traveling on the metro, reflecting the growing popularity and reliance on Chennai’s metro system.
Here’s a breakdown of the monthly passenger statistics for 2024:

February: 8,615,008
March: 8,682,457
April: 8,087,712
May: 8,421,072
June: 8,433,837
July: 9,535,019
August: 9,543,625
CMRL has attributed this consistent growth in ridership to its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient public transportation. To further enhance the convenience for its passengers, CMRL has introduced a 20% discount on all ticketing options. Additionally, tickets can now be easily booked through the CMRL WhatsApp Ticketing System (+91 83000 86000) and Paytm, making the process more accessible and user-friendly.
In a statement, CMRL expressed its gratitude to passengers for their continued support and assured them of its ongoing efforts to improve the metro travel experience in Chennai. The record-breaking ridership numbers highlight the metro’s crucial role in the city’s public transportation network, offering a dependable alternative for daily commuters and occasional travelers alike.
As Chennai continues to expand and develop, CMRL remains dedicated to meeting the increasing demand for public transit, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey for all its passengers.
