PM Modi takes out cleanliness drive on Gandhi Jayanthi

On Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and various political leaders paid homage to Gandhi at his memorial in Delhi.

In a post on X, Modi expressed his reverence for Gandhi’s ideals, stating, “On behalf of all countrymen, salutations to Pujya Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals based on truth, harmony and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen.”

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Om Birla were also among the dignitaries who paid tributes to Gandhi at Rajghat.

Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi visited Rajghat in the morning to honour the Father of the Nation. He later wrote in his X post. “Bapu has taught me that if you want to live, you have to live without fear – you have to walk on the path of truth, love, compassion and harmony, uniting everyone. Gandhiji is not a person but a way of living and thinking.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Sonia Gandhi also paid homage to Gandhi at the Central Hall of the Parliament House.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a post on X, reiterated Gandhi’s enduring legacy, emphasizing the relevance of his teachings. She wrote, “On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, I pay tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. His teachings of non-violence, truth, and unity continue to inspire us every day. Let us pledge to build a just and inclusive society, reflecting his vision for India.” She further encouraged adherence to Gandhi’s principles of non-violence and tolerance.

This year also marked the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, a national cleanliness campaign launched by Prime Minister Modi in 2014. To celebrate the milestone, Modi participated in cleanliness drives alongside schoolchildren, urging citizens to engage in similar activities.
