The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to begin distributing tokens for the Pongal gift hampers five days before the festival, according to Additional Chief Secretary J. Radhakrishnan. The gift hampers, a much-anticipated annual initiative, are provided to family cardholders across the state during the harvest festival of Pongal.Last year, the Pongal hampers included one kilogram of brown rice, one kilogram of sugar, whole sugarcane, and âč1,000 in cash, alongside free dhotis and sarees. This year, public expectations are high as they await an official announcement from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin regarding the contents of the 2024 gift package.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Radhakrishnan revealed that preparations are underway to procure materials such as rice, sugar, and clothing to assemble the hampers. âThe Chief Minister will soon make an announcement about this yearâs Pongal gift hampers. Distribution of the packages will begin five days before the festival,â he stated.
